Ladies 3rds Update So its been a while since our last match report so here is a bit of an update, now where to begin................... well 3 weeks ago we played Our Ladies in a league match, my first full match back and for this one I got the pleasure of playing in goals. Lets just say I for some reason was under the illusion that you didn't need to use your arms much for this position, how wrong I was!!!!!!!!! Alan and Emma started warming me up assuring me that I wouldn't have this much work to do during the match ...................... how wrong they were!!! The game began and so started the attack and I mean attack of the our ladies team, apparently I even saved a goal with my stomach but they just kept on coming and eventually my concentration lapsed and in went 2 goals, so half time and after some tears from me (yes I was that pathetic) the score was 2-0 to Our Ladies. The first half started somewhat better for the Glens with a few good attacks but a well taken short corner along with some shall we say Henry type tactics another goal went in for Our Ladies. The final score was 4-0 and for some reason I got man of the match. All I can say after that experience is goalies should be paid, the concentration required god my head hurt by the end of it!!
So the next game was fogged off and then we got to play Genesis 5th team (they have 2 teams in our division). This match was spectacular everyone played amazingly, new member Gemma was outstanding in her first game in many years. The goalie on the Genesis team was kept extremely busy in both halves and we should have been about 5-0 up but for all the saves and all the silly posts getting in the way! The second half was pretty much the same with the glens defence not having to do all that much with chances abound but none getting past the keeper. Not sure who Genesis had in goals for them but she was brilliant.
Then it was on to the second round of the cup, which brings us up to this weekend. Its safe to say none of us were looking forward to this game as who did we have to play but Our Ladies, however this time we would have a proper goalie go Aoife! The game started pretty much as our previous match against them had (they really have too many ex irish players!) but this time our defence absorbed more of the pressure and Aoife mades some terrifics saves, even a lovely glove save-this inspite of Dee's stories before hand how one of the Our Ladies girls broke her hand though her glove many moons ago! We even tested their goalie this time, but 2 minutes before the half time whistle they got one into the back of the net, so half time score 1-0 to Our Ladies. The second half started with the same intensity as the first, both sides had chances but neither could get passed the goalies. So final score 1-0 to Our Ladies, although we lost I think everyone will agree we gave it our all, well done girls especially to Nuala (you know why). Man of the match had to go to Aoife without whom I am pretty sure the score would have been slightly different. Also thanks to all our injured girls for coming out to support and to Ann for umpiring and finally thanks Siobhan who brought little Anna out to see us.
