Glenanne Ladies 3rds V Botanic and Trinity
Halloween and the Ladies 3rds took on Botanic. With keeper Emma making her first appearance for the ladies section the game got under way, throughout the first half the game was evenly matched with both sides making some good attacks, finally a break came for Glenanne and Niamh McCarthy scored a lovely goal, leaving the first half with the Glens leading 1-0. The second hand got under way and Botanic were on the attack with some great saves and excellent defending keeping them at bay. Botanic finally made it an even 1-1 and not long after that they got a lucky goal to go 2-1 ahead. Final whistle left the score 2-1 to Botanic, hard luck girls I feel a draw would have been a fair result. Well done to Emma on her first outing with us, player of the match went to Nuala Gillick who played outstanding in defence. So first month down and its 50 50 for the thirds 2 wins from 4, but it does give Manager Dee the title of Manager of the month go Dee!!! Oh and I am now T-3 weeks and counting apparently I am making a terrific recovery!
Glenanne Ladies 3rds V Trinity 07/11/09
At training on Wednesday it didn’t look like this was not going to be a good match with only 2 defenders available, and no goalie. However by Friday we had 2 willing goal keepers and I decided to give playing a go, so balance was restored to the ladies 3rds with a Niamh on the left, one in the centre and one on the right. So it was off to Santry to take on Trinity the game started and Trinity were on the attack, they came close a few times in the first half with a definite goal being expertly defended by Orlagh Waldron, who seemed to be everywhere on the pitch. The Glens had their own chances in the first half but at half time the score was 0-0.
The second half started with some close calls on both sides Niamh McCarthy got a lovely shot on goal that just went wide and Trinity actually got one in the goal but fortunately for the Glens the whistle had gone as poor Dee had gotten a ball in the head, that was the start of the injury list, mind you Dee managed to play on, Niamh Mc Carty got a ball on the hand and Emma who played superb as sweeper got one on the knee. The short corners then started coming for the Glens and finally a terrific shot from Orlagh hit the back board 1-0 to the Glens. This spurred Trinity and keeper Emma made some great saves to keep the score line at 1-0. Finally the whistle went leaving the score 1-0, well done everyone especially Orlagh who got player of the match. A big thanks to Catherine and Emma for coming out, Brendan for umpiring and Cormac for doing the line. And finally congratulations to Orlagh on her engagement. |
