Men's 2nd's Open with a Win:
The men's seconds got off to a very good start to the season beating
Monkstown 3-2 on Saturday morning in St Marks. This year the team
Captain is Paul Bastible who takes back over the reins from Conor Lynne
who did a fantastic job last year. Conor was often under pressure to get
bodies together but always managed to pull something out of the hat.

The team saw the welcome return of The O'Donoghue brothers Albert and
Rolly as well as the usual suspects.

The fitness of the Glens showed on the pitch and pre-season training
appeared to have paid off. Kevin O'Malley led the defence which was
pretty solid and Gary Shaw and John Steward provided the vital link to
the forwards.

Young Richard Shaw opened the scoring for the Glens by following up on a
short corner from the push out spot and slipping a powerful drag into an
acute angle. The Glens had the majority of chances throughout the first
half and proved to be in control. Fifteen minutes into the second half a
nice goal came from Jason Kehoe (Soon to be Oz bound for 15 months). He
picked up the ball from the top of the circle, beat two men and flicked
the ball over an advancing Monkstown keeper to make it 2-0. Paul made
some great saves in goal and kept everyone on the straight and narrow
throughout the game.

Monkstown struck back from a short corner to make it 2-1. A ball was
then struck from the 25 yard line into the Monkstown circle where Jason
deflected it at the keepers chest and Albert O'Donoghue picked up on the
rebound to make it 3-1. Finally Monkstown scored a late goal to make it
a 3-2 win to the glens.

Overall a very pleasing performance and hopefully a good sign for the
rest of the season. The Glens are away to Railway union on Sat 25th
August 2004.

3rd team - Trinity 2nds - 3/5 loss

HI Guys

The third Team played their first game of the season versus a  Decent Trinity 2nd Team

The scorline was not in our favour this time - 3/5 loss

A quick note on the performance: -

There were some Bodies missing for this game, for one reason or another - but the guys who stepped up to the wicket did great, some guys made their debuts & some came out of retirement for this game - the young guns Tadgh/Ian/Eoin played with great zest and will be pushing for Call ups to the 2nd squad this season

Alan Dignam found a new position at sweeper - all those years playing wasted at Centre Forward - We didnt know he could tackle !

Matty Willaimson playing what must be his 20th year on the 3rds was his usual competitive self getting in the savage tackles and driving the team forward from Centre Mid

This week its Monkstown hopefully with one or two senior team members back we can get some points on the board
