2-1 winners over Our Ladies, well done ladies!!!!

So the day finally arrived CUP FINAL eeekkkkk, well thats how I was feeling on Sunday morning as we headed down to Three Rock to take on Our Ladies. I think its safe to say we had a very tough route to the final, our first game was against Old Alex who went on to win division 9. Then the quarter final pitted us against Mullingar who came second in Division 9! Then we faced one of the toughest teams I think we ever have to play North Kildare. But we came through them all to face Our Ladies in the final. We had already played Our Ladies twice in Division 10 both times coming out on top, but I think that added to the pressure we were all feeling stepping out on the pitch. Anyway the game had to be played and played it was. The first half saw the Glens dominate and it didnt take long for the accurate passing of wonderful captain Niamh Mc to find Sineads stick and put us 1-0 ahead. The first half we were doing really well but Our Ladies weren’t without their chances and Catherine made some terrific saves off the line, as did Paula Davis. However the passing in the midfield was too accurate and like a replica of the first goal we got our second, again with Niamh Mc covering terrific ground and passing to Sinead who made no mistake of hitting the backboard. This left the score 2-0 at half time but the Our Ladies team had already started pilling on the pressure. The second half started with Our Ladies making some good plays and honestly I dont know how we kept them out, but finally they took a goal from us with a short corner, score 2-1 with about 15 minutes to go. The pressure didnt stop there and although they got another one by the amazing Catherine it was deemed to have hit an Our Ladies foot prior to that so the score remained 2-1. We didnt have many chances in the second half Gemma Fay made some good runs as did Lucy Harrison but we got nothing from them. Our Ladies were begining to pile on the pressure again and for the last ten minutes we must have made more clearances than for the whole match, Catherine was everywhere (thank god). Finally the whistle went, honestly I didnt realise it was the final whistle but thankfully it was. Final score 2-1 in what I can only imagine was a nerve wracking game to watch.

I still cant believe we did it, at the start of the season we had gotten together and had all decided that we wanted to get promoted and win the cup. I gotta admit its been a tough campaign I personally have gotten more injuries than I care to remember and not forgetting at the start of the season we had no goalie, but we did it as a team. An amazing team all of whom did not get to play in the final but without everyone we couldnt have done it. So girls well done and I know I speak for us all when I say thanks to Dee and Paul without all their hardwork we never could have gotten here. Also a big thanks to all our supporters especially Nick who has been to most of our games, even if it was only to watch Sinead score all those goals!!! A big well done to Sinead who scored 35 goals this season which is an amazing achievement and to Eimear who got herself on the clean sheet list and the goal scorers list. Finally thanks to Niamh Mc our fantastic captain. Well done girls we rocked it!!!!!!!!!!!
