Weekend Review 7 Nov

All the weekend's action reviewed

Men's 2XI
Glenanne      4-0    Railway Union
E O'Malley x 2
Keogh
Gary Shaw
It was over when: Gary Shaw fired home a dragflick which nestled in the right hand corner of the net to make it 4-0 with less than ten minutes remaining.
The rest of the goals: Eddie O'Malley opened the scoring late in the first half with a well struck shot. David Keogh doubled the lead before the break when he reacted quickest to a shocking miss from O'Malley which came back off the bar. O'Malley got his second straight after half-time when he slapped home a well worked corner.
Key Man: 'The preview' usually witholds this honour for members of Glenanne but it says alot about Alan 'Hubba' McKinnin's performance that he was able to pick up the match MVP gong while letting in 4 goals. 'Hubba' kept the scoreline respectful and was the player to have the greatest influence on the game.
Key Stat: Glens had around 15 efforts on goal in the first half before O'Malley eventually opened the scoring. Such wastefulness could be fateful in upcoming games against Monkstown and Annadale.
Next up: Glens travel to Fingal next week who are level on 11 points with them having played a game extra and may also play YM in a back match on Sunday. Railway take on UCD in a basment battle.
Notes: Glens kept their second cleansheet of the season on Saturday...Railway are now 8 games without a win this season...Shaw's late goal kept him level with O'Malley at the head of the second team top goalscorers chart with 5 goals each...After taking on Fingal next week Glens face the rough run into christmas of reigning champions Monkstown (league), Annadale (IJC), Corinthians/Pembroke (Railway Cup), Pembroke (league) and YMCA (league)
Glenanne team v Railway: G Carragher, K O'Malley, A Mcloughlin, D Kehoe, J Stewart, C Kennedy, D Keogh, C Murphy, C O'Neill, E O'Malley, Gary Shaw. Subs: D Shaw, S Callaghan, M Lucas.
Men's 3XI
Glenanne    4-2    Corinthians
Cashman              ANother
Callaghan             O'Riordan
Keppel
Matthews
It was over when: Karl Matthews rocketed the ball into the top corner from 10 yards to make it 4-2 with seconds remaining. Corinthians had pulled a goal back from a corner moments before to set up a tense finalé.
The rest of the goals: Corinthians opened the scoring just after half-time with a back post tap in but Zane Cashman equalised a minute later with a mis-hit tap in. Karl Kelly intercepted a loose pass to put Stephen Callaghan in before Mark Keppel was assisted by Paul Byrne. Billy O'Riordan (brother of Ann O'Connor) pulled a goal back from a short corner near the end despite his strike appearing to hit the post and bounce back out.
Key Man: Zane Cashman was a tireless presence at left midfield and his equaliser, coming barely a minute after Corinthians had taken the lead, was integral in Glens winning the game.
Key stat: After a tight but high quality first half, this game opened up after the break with all six goals coming in the second period.
Next up: Glens travel to Monkstown next week. Corinthians will hope to bounce back against YMCA at home.
Notes: Keith Fishbourne missed the chance to play against his old team due to work commitments...Glens move up to 4th of 12 in the table after  Saturday's win, one point ahead of Corinthians in 5th...Cashman and Callaghan remain locked at the top of the third team top scorers chart after a goal each at the weekend.
Glenanne team v Corinthians: D O'Malley, B Moorecroft, K O'Malley, D McDonnell, J Kehoe, C O'Neill, M Lucas, Z Cashman, S Callaghan, T Murphy, K Matthews. Subs: C Lynch, M Keppel, P Byrne, K Kelly, C Kennedy.
Men's 4XI
Glenanne   1-2   St Brendan's/PP
R O'Malley
It was over when: The St Brendan's/PP centre forward broke through Rhys Coleman's tackle and crashed the ball off the post and in with barely 5 minutes remaining. Glens had been hanging on for most the second half and played poorly overall.
The rest of the goals: Ryan O'Malley gave Glenanne an early lead when he reacted quickest to a short corner rebound but Brendan's were level by half-time through a scrappy short corner goal.
Key man: Sam Williamson had a fine game, starting at left back and advancing forward in position as the game went on. The youngster showed off his skills throughout the match.
Key Stat: Dave Williamson, Eoin Lynch and Ciaran Sexton all received yellow cards in the second half as Glens discipline went walkabouts, leaving the team vulnerable to a Brendan's suckerpunch.
Glenanne team v St Brendan's/PP: D O'Malley, A Kennedy, B Moorecroft, D Williamson, S Williamson, R O'Malley, T Murphy, M Keppel, E Lynch, K Matthews, C Sexton. Subs: K Kelly, T Williamson, R Coleman, S Callaghan.
