Ladies Thirds match report v Rathgar 14/01/2012
The thirds currently lying top of Division 10 with 22 points were out in Rathgar for their first match of the second half of the season. At the start of the season the Glens beat Rathgar 3-0 and were looking to repeat that and get another 3 points to stay ahead in division 10. The match started with the Glens in possession and it wasn’t long before they were in their opponents circle, unfortunatly the umpire missed a short corner chance for the Glens, I can say that cause the umpire was me (its very hard to see stuff out there)!! However it didnt take long for the Glens to be back on the attack and for Sinead to hammer home goal number one (I didn’t miss that…..thank god). So going into the second half it was 1-0 to the Glens. The second half started fast and Rathgar were making some good attacks but the Glenanne defence kept them at bay. The Glens then showed how to turn a defence short corner into an attacking opportunity, the ball was cleared and the attack was started all the way up the right side of the pitch, passed into Sinead who again hit the back board for goal number 2. The game finished 2-0 to the Glens but Rathgar were not without their chances and Catherine made some terriffic saves. Well done girls 3 more points putting us at 25 with an terriffic goal difference of 24, well done girls I promise if I have to umpire again I’ll learn that damn obstruction rule and maybe learn to blow the whistle…….its a lot harder than it looks.
