Ladies 2nds v Clontarf Match Report 07/01/2012

The seconds travelled out to Clontarf on Saturday morning on search of three points. The game started out very fast paced with the Glens looking the more threatening team. The first goal came from a corner which came out to Louise Kennedy who showed great composure to strike the ball into the goal. The Glens continued to keep the pressure on Clontarf with some super midfield and forward play, the next goal came from Elsa Stewart who confidently struck the ball into the goal. The Glens although two goals up seemed unsettled for the last couple of minutes of the first half which led to a break away goal from Clontarf in the last minute of the half.

The second half was a much quieter half from the Glens who seemed to sit on there heels and leave the pressure of Clontarf allowing them into the game a little more. The defemce were disciplined and prevented Clontarf from capitalising from the break they were getting. The last Glens goal which sealed the victory came from Maire Goulding picking the ball up near the halfway and dribbling along the sideline and then the endline and attempted to dribble into the goal but off loaded it to Sereena Rush who made sure the ball went in the goal. The rest of the game continued with the Glens reapplying the pressure they had in the first half.

The win has positioned the seconds at the top of the table with 19 points, however YMCA are in second with 17 points and a game in hand against Avoca being played on Thursday in Alexandra College at 20:45.
