Ladies Preview Saturday 3/12/11
The 1sts are out at 11.15 in Belfield against division 1 leaders UCD. UCD have 16 points from 5 wins and 1 draw. The Glens will be looking to build on their promising performances against Pembroke and Trinity. In both games the girls showed true Glenanne heart and passion, if they can combine these and convert some chances into goals, this clash could be very interesting. Last season the Glens lost 1-0 at home and 7-0 in Belfield. This is their last league game before the Christmas break, so no doubt the girls will throw everything they have at it.
** The 1sts play in the 2nd round of the Jacqui Potter Cup on Sunday December 11th in Whitechurch against Corinthians time TBC**
The 2nds are out at 14.00 against Cork Harlequins II in the Irish Junior Cup. Cork Harlequins play in Munster Division 2 and are currently placed 4th. The two sides have not met in recent years. Amoung the players lining out on Saturday are a number of players who were involved in the ladies 1sts wining the Irish Junior Cup in 2008, the last year that 1st XI teams in division 2 could compete. No doubt the 2nds will be determined to progress into the competition and this will prove an exciting game. The 2nds have found their feet in division 4 and will be looking to maintain their momentum, with their final lege game of 2011 next weekend against Loreto.
The 3rds are out at 10.00 against Genesis in Glenanne Park. Genesis are currently in 3rd position, two points behind the Glens. In the second half of last season the thirds beat Genesis 5-0. The thirds have scored a whopper 15 goals in their last two games, looking like the current ladies top goal scorer coming from the thirds, there is most likely internal competition to rack up a few more each this weekend. This is the girls last game before the Christmas break, three points would be the icing on the cake for a dream 1st half of the season.
Best of luck to all teams in the mens and ladies section at the weekend.
