Ladies 2nds v Loreto 10/12/11
A late game for the 2nds in Loreto Beaufort. against Loreto 3rds The girls knew this game was going to be tough as Loretos 2nd team had no game deeming some of their players eligible to play for the division 4 side. The Glens started out well, but were rattled in the closing 15 of the first hale. Loreto won a number of corners which were well defended by the corner team Louise Kennedy taking a couple off the line. The Glens withstood the pressure but some loose marking led to Loreto getting a goal.
After half time a different team stepped out, this time not giving Loreto half the time on the ball or space as they were given in the first half. The glens moved the ball around well but weren’t getting things right in the circle. It was the final 3 minutes where all the action lay, the glens winning a short corner from a Loreto defender trying to take out Ciara Nugent rather than take the ball. The corner came out to kate, and somehow she found herself in possestion of the ball passed the penalty spot on far right of the circle, she rocketed a shot in across the goal which landed to Rachel Maunsel who deflected it into the goal. With time running out the Glens went in search of the winnner, camped out in Loreto’s half, it was a case of too little too late, the final whistle was blown, the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
This draw leaves the seconds in 2nd position in the league just one point behind YMCA. The Glens have shown great league form, remaining unbeaten coming into christmas. The 2nds would like to thank Ari playing with them for the first half of the season and will be sad to see her go, as she returns home to Germany. The seconds would also like to thank all the people who helped out for the first half of the season and look forward to the New Year, to continue their league run.
