Men’s 2nd team stay top with dramatic comeback

The men’s second team remain top of Division 3 after they came from 4-1 down with 12 minutes remaining to snatch a draw against Fingal in ALSAA on Sunday.

In a frantically paced game, the Glens looked to have thrown the points away when they allowed their opponents to score two goals while they were down to ten men.

However, a late onslaught saw them claw back to level terms before they missed a few chances to take all three points.

Stuart Ronan put Glenanne ahead as early as the third minute when he reacted quickest to a rebound from the goalkeeper.

Fingal equalised almost instantly as Clive Kennedy conceded a penalty stroke for a deliberate foot in the circle.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half with a fine deflection from a crash ball from the left hand side but Glenanne dominated the final exchanges of the first period and had several chances to equalise.

The second half saw the visiting side control possession and they looked set to kick on when Fingal were reduced to ten men for knocking the ball away but two counter attack goals saw them staring into the abyss.

A second sin binning for the northside team gave Glens a glimpse of a result though.

Ronan grabbed his second when he deflected in a well-worked short corner and Paul Fitzpatrick brought the deficit back to one when he flicked home from the next set piece.

You felt another corner would see the equaliser arrive and so it proved as Kennedy deflected home at the right hand post.

Mark Keppel had a chance to win the game late on while another corner went amiss but Fingal also forced a fine save from Karl Crosbie near the end.
