The men’s second team continued their fine run of form with a convincing 4-0 win over Railway Union on Saturday in Park Avenue.

An unusual early starting time did not prevent Glens for sprinting from the blocks as they put the Sandymount side under pressure from the start.

A flurry of early chances produced nothing on the scoresheet but midway through the half the deadlock was broken as Ryan O’Malley deflected home a Stephen Brownlow dragflick in to the roof of the net.

The away side were now completely dominating the game.

Karl Crosbie only had to make one comfortable kick in the first half, while Paul Fitzpatrick and Alan Mcloughlin made some superb tackles to protect the circle.

The lead was doubled around the 25 minute mark when David Shaw broke from midfield and squared the ball to Stuart Ronan who deflected into the net.

The score remained the same until half-time and it was a game that very much hung on the third goal.

Thankfully it came for the visitors after a fine team move.

Fitzpatrick and Sam O’Connor worked the ball out from the back before Clive Kennedy broke from midfield.

His pass was somewhat fluffed but found Mark Keppel on the left-hand side of the circle and he found Matt Lucas who practically walked the ball in to the goal.

Stephen Brownlow added a fourth with around 12 minutes remaining as he slalomed his way through the Railway rearguard before flicking past the goalkeeper with aid of a defenders head.

Further chances came to add to the lead while Crosbie had one dragflick and one reverse stick shot to keep out to preserve his clean sheet.

Next week the second team take on UCD before a crucial Irish Junior Cup clash with YMCA the week after.
