Ladies 2nds v Swords 26/11/11
The seconds playing another team in the top four this weekend were looking to make there table topping position a more permanent one. The game started out well for the Glens the girls dominating possession for long periods through quick passing and plenty of movement off the ball. Jane Salter was on a mission upfront to score and was rewarded with a penalty when her shot was stopped on the line from a Swords players stomach. Jane’s ever level head, she slotted the ball into the goal. Swords were more determined to get one back and through some marking errors Swords got a goal back. The Glens picked themselves up and through some more play like the start they found themselves in the circle once again, this time the ball falling to Siobhan Bastable who put it away. The Glens lead 2-1 into half time.
The second half started off well, the Glens maintaining much possession, with some super work from the forwards, Rachel Maunsel was finally rewarded with a goal. The Glens capitalising from their clinical play in the circle, had a number of short corners, but a regimented Swords defence kept them out.The Glens found on the hop, contesting a free given to Swords allowed a Swords player to walk into the circle one on one with the keeper, which led to Swords second goal. This wasn’t enough from the visiting side, as time was called and the Glens continue to cement their lead in division 4. End score 3-2.
The 2nds have Irish Junior Cup next weekend in Glenanne Park against Cork Harlequins. All support is welcome.
