Ladies 1X11s V Trinity away – Saturday 5/11/2011
Glens start to find their form
A pivotal point in the Ladies firsts season was the match up away to Trinity. A late start saw the glens fly out of the blocks and dominate a team that took 6 points off them last season. With the welcome return of Paula Fitzpatrick upfront demonstrating her superb work rate and touch, linking up extremely well with doppelganger Lucy Small and re-establishing her dynamic partnership with Audrey McCormack, the Glens saw more promising circle play with some real chances early on in the first half. Dearbhla Kieran found her form in this game and also threatened the trinity defence regularly throughout the first half. The Glens defensive unit cleaned up majority of any of Trinity`s attacking play. Trinity only seemed to really threaten the Glens goals when a short corner was awarded and striking the post. This was somewhat a flash in the pan for Trinity in the first half.
The second half saw Cathy Brock put in some fine work in the right midfield to cause some distress for the Trinity defenders and also causing some aggravation with players, resulting in 3 green and one yellow card for Trinity and Glens receiving one green card in a hotly contested period of play. Both teams held fast and with Sue Byrne rallying her defence superbly in this tie, the glens never looked in trouble. Some fine individual performances from the Glenanne ladies wasnt as impressive as the team chemistry that appeared in parts of this game and bodes well for future matches as the Ladies seem to be finding some form. The goals feel like they are coming and with the squad strengthening at an alarming rate with a number of players still to return to the fray things are looking up for the ladies firsts. End Score 0-0.
Man of Match: Cathy Brock
