Ladies 1sts Irish Senior Cup Match Report 12/11/2011
Glens fail to arrive
The ladies travelled to Armagh on a large comfortable bus and seemed in good spirits when arriving. With a few changes to the starting line-up seeing old favourites Kate O`Connor starting in the sweeper role with Ciara Nugent getting her first start this season at right back, after returning from a knee injury which kept her out last season. This allowed Niamh Ward to be unleashed into midfield for the first time this season and Kerrie Maunsel, a talented youngster, getting her debut for the ladies firsts. The start of this game did not give away any indication of the disaster that was to come in the second half. Armagh scored 2 goals in the first half from soft short corner routines exposing the normally solid corner defensive unit of the ladies in green. The first half was fairly evenly matched with Armagh seizing their chances and Glens not creating enough for themselves.
The glens came out firing in the second half but the flames were rapidly extinguished by a slew of goals from Armagh. Unfortunately the ladies in green seemed to fall part and could not get anything right, even scoring a couple of own goals late in the second half. Christine Barretto received a yellow card for misconduct 5 minutes from time which summed up the day that was in it for the Glens. It was unfortunate that the ladies did not turn up because we had important supporters on the sidelines in the shape of Alice and Dierdre who travelled the distance to see a performance that just didnt happen. Thank you to all the other supporters, ever positive and supportive Mr Rynne, Mr Nugent and our captains family.
