Men’s weekend Preview: 15th/16th of October

The men’s 1st XI are on the road this weekend to play Cork Harlequins in their first match of the IHL this season. What looks to be a busy month starts off with a tough test against the strong Munster outfit, who they last met in the competition 3 seasons ago. Where the Glens grabbed a bonus point goal to give them a 4-1 win in the final minutes of the game. Gary Shaw will look to extend his goal scoring form in what will be the biggest stage so far in the season, and with this brother Richie, and cousin Graham beside him in midfield, it shapes up as a very tough trio to control for Quins.

The 2nd XI will be looking at this Sundays showdown with Trinity as a bit of a grudge match, as meeting them away has been a tough encounter over the last couple of years. The last two meetings between these two in Marley has yielded a 5-4 loss and a 4-4 draw, the latter coming at the end of last season. But with Paul Fitzpatrick and Clinton Murphy controlling the back, players like Mark Keppel, Matthew Lucas and Colin Neville are starting to shine in the forward line.

The 3rds come up against Clontarf this weekend, and history shows that this game has never been an easy one. Winning 3-1 and drawing 1-1 last season, Keith Fishbournes return can only boost the organisation as well as the confidence in the dressing room of a team, that looks close to being a top team in division 4 again. Along with Fishy, Albert has brought a wealth of experience to the forward line, and what should be a “Great” goal or two.

the 4ths face off against Three Rock and will hope that they can go for the win this time round as last year they had to settle for a 2-2 draw, Eoin Lynch will be looking to capitalize on his double last weekend, and add a few more to his name.

The 5ths start off with their first game of the season against Bray. They will look to match their league form this year to their cup form, as they have done so well in the last two years. And they will look to take 3 points from the Wicklow men this weekend.
