Men’s Thirds v Clontarf October 15th
This was a steep learning curve for the Men’s third team as they lost a 2-0 half-time lead to lose 3-2 with the final touch of the ball against a good Clontarf team.
A strong first half display from Glens saw them move in to a strong position. Neil Byrne did most the damage down the right-hand side of the pitch.
For the opener, the 15-year-old played a neat baseline 2v1 with Mark Keppel before squaring for Stu Ronan who finished in to the roof of the net.
When the lead was doubled – shortly before the break – Byrne decided to do it all himself. The build-up was almost identical, Keppel playing him along the baseline again but the youngster moved the ball to his reverse side before crashing home at the near post.
HT Glenanne 2-0 Clontarf
The key goal came almost immediately after the break. The ball was leaked to a Clontarf forward who turned Dave McDonnell before crashing past Dave Williamson.
The goal seemed to energise Glens slightly as they won several corners in an attempt to finish the tie. All went unconverted while Stephen Callaghan had two decent chances to deflect home as well.
The visitors got a deserved equaliser 4 minutes from the end with a swift counter-attack but Glenanne looked to be on the verge of a late winner when Paul Byrne earned a corner with a minute remaining.
The stop was muddled slightly and ‘The Bulls’ got a block in. They moved the ball swiftly up the far end and it was finished with a delicated touch. Hardly enough time to tip off!
