Glenanne Hockey Club

Ladies weekend preview October 15th & 16th

The 1st XI are out at 17.00 on Saturday against newly promoted Three Rock Rovers at Grange Road. Rovers gained promotion to division one in early September when Bray were forced to pull out. Three Rock finished the highest 1st XI team in division 2 at fifth place, but lost the promotion/ relegation game against Corinthians in April with only a goal separating the sides. The last time Glenanne and Three Rock met competitively was in April 2008, where Glenanne gained promotion to division 1 in an exciting game which went to extra time, the Glens winning 3-2. Three Rock played their first league match in division 1 on October 1st against Old Alex, loosing 1-0.

The 2nd XI are out at 13.00 on Saturday in Glenanne park against YMCA 1st XI. The Sandymount club gained promotion to division 4 last season with only one loss out of eighteen league games. The 2nds will be looking to build on the good start they had last weekend against Rathgar and hoping to gain their first three pointer of the season.

The 3rd XI are away to North Kildare 3rd XI at 15.00 on Saturday. After two successful weekends the 3rds will be looking to maintain their momentum. The Glens currently top the division 10 league table with six points, North Kildare just two points below in second position. Last season five points separated the two teams in the league. North Kildare finished fifth with 28 points and the Glens sixth with 23 points. Results from the league clashes of 2010/11 season were a 1-1 draw in the first half of the season and the Glens winning the second clash 3-0.
