Thirds V North Kildare

Third match of the season and it was a treck to North Kildare for the 3rds, for what was always going to be a tough match. Even before the whistle went things weren’t looking good for the girls with 2 running late from a previous match and another 3 including our goalie for the day accidently travelling to Naas Hockey club, oops!! To add to that I had mislaid my gum shield, but kinda figured I had already gotten hit in the face once this season what were the chances of it happening again…. laws of probability and all that!!!  So what to do with no goalie for the start……. well thats were old reliable Fiona Hanaphy stepped up and donned the gear for the first time ever, well done Fiona. So with everyone a little bit on edge the game began and it began with a bang.

The first half saw some good chances for both teams and some green cards, things were getting a little bit heated so by half time Manager Dee had to give us all a good talking to. The first half had ended 0-0 with some great saves by Fiona who swapped out of the gear at half time with Eimear.

The second half started with the same gusto as the first with people falling all over the place, I would say there are a lot of skinned knees out there today. It wasnt long before a well taken short corner from North Kildare put them 1-0 ahead, but the Glens were straight back in it with a terrific run from Gemma and although levelled by the keeper somehow got the ball into the goal injuring herself in the process, brought the score to 1-1. The game progressed at a pretty fast pace with some good opportunities from both sides. Finally the Glens got a break with Niamh Mc doing some terriffic work in the midfield up and into the circle with a wonderful pass to an as always well positioned Sinead, bang, goal number 2. I think it would be fair to say at this stage I thought we had the beating of them but sometimes things don’t go your way and North Kildare won a short corner which they scored from leveling the match once again. Final whistle 2 goals and 2 green cards a piece. The thirds winning streak may be over but we still remain unbeaten.

Not looking forward to training apparently island of calm Eimear Aherne has come up with some sort of punishment for those of us who got green cards……and yes one of them was me I know hard to believe!
