Ladies 3rd team off to flying start
WEEK 1 V RATHGAR
The ladies thirds played their first league match of the season on Saturday against the newly named Rathgar Hockey Club. The conditions look set to be poor with rain pelting down for most of the morning, but the girls were fired up and determined to get the season started off with a win. New players Alice Griffin and Sarah Cooke made their debut for the Glens, and we also welcomed back Holly after the birth of her little girl. This was also going to be a big match for Eimear Aherne who was braving her first time in goals. The game started off at a fast pace with Rathgar on the attack but it wasn’t long before the ball was up the opposite end and the Glens on the attack. A good passage of play saw the Glens get 3 short corners in quick succession, the first two resulting in another short. The third however resulting in first goal of the season for Katie Keogh. It wasn’t long before Sinead Aherne showed us all what a centre forward should do and scored a cracker from play. With the rain still lashing down it was 2-0 to the Glens at half time.
The second half started with the Glens straight on the attack with some great passing from captain Niamh Mc and Lucy, but Rathgar were not without their opportunities all of which the Glens defence saw off. The third goal scored by Glenanne was a great example of superb team work, the Glens got a free in the middle of the pitch which Alice took quickly and made her way down the right side of the pitch giving the pass to Sinead at just the right time, who in turn passed to Nikki, Nikki then cool as a cucumber took a terrific strike and there you have it goal number 3. Well done everyone terrific performance and now hopefully we can keep the momentum going against Trinity this week.
Final score 3-0 to Glenanne

WEEK 2 V TRINITY
Well today we got to play the students away in Santry, most of us in bad form due to the Irish rugby teams loss that morning, but how and ever the show must go on. I had volunteered to brave the goals this week and thanks to Sue had gear that fit, thank god, not that I needed it much in the first half as the defence were stellar. The Glens were on the attack for the whole first half with Gemma showing us how it’s done and doing a solo effort down the pitch to pick up goal number 1. It wasn’t long before Niamh Mc with a terrific run up the right side of the pitch got a shot at an unreal angle and there we had goal 2, still not sure how she got it. So half time 2-0 to Glenanne. The second half started at the same fast pace as the first, obviously all the training we have been doing has paid off. Trinity must have gotten a good talking to at half time cause the attacks were coming in this half, but our amazing defence did great clearing most of the balls and only leaving a few for me to clear, but it wasn’t long before a short corner for Trinity got them a goal. The Glens however didn’t stop fighting and some great work from the forwards got Sinead in with goal number 3. With the second half more evenly matched the defence and even me had to do some work, but the mids and forwards put up a good fight resulting in another short and a another goal for Sinead. End result 4-1 to Glenanne, long may the winning streak continue.
Final Score 4-1 to Glenanne
