Ladies 2nds v YMCA Saturday October 15th
The seconds knew going into the game on Saturday that it was going to be tough, but were looking to come out with their first three points of the season. Newly promoted YMCA had drawn their first game 3-3 against Rathgar and beaten Old Alex 1-0. From the whistle it was clear the two teams were up for it. The Glens came close to scoring in the first minute with a quick ball from a well worked play from the push back to the speedy Niamh Mc at the top of the circle, only for YMCA’s keeper pulling off a good save to keep the ball out of the goal. The Glens nearly had another goal in the first half which crossed the line as the umpire blew the whistle to signal a short corner. Niamh and Lucy stepped up from the thirds and slotted in well up front. YM had some good play in the first half but the defence held strong to hold them out.
The second half started off well, Glens winning possession from the YM restart and pushing play up field. YM played some good fast hockey, which then glens defense and midfield did well to keep up with. Elsa and Sarah got the better of their players preventing much play up front. The game was quite a physical one, neither side giving up the ball easily, which unfortunately led to no goals being scored. Leaving the seconds coming out of the game with only one point.
Next weekend is a double weekend for the seconds out on Saturday against Old Alex in the League and Sunday against Suttonians in the division 3/4 cup. Then girls will be looking to build again on their performance and become more “clinical” in the circle.
