Ladies 2nds v Old Alex Match Report 22/10/2011

The 2nds won their first three points of the season against Alex on Saturday. The game started off slowely, the Glens found it hard to find their rhythm in the first twenty minutes with patches off good play. Alex were persistent in their attack which paid off, when they scored from some fast play in the circle. Alex were unlucky not to have more going into the second half with Elsa Stewart and Paula Fitzpatrick denying them the goal with some inspiring play stealing possession.

With a talking to at half time, the Glens came out with determination and brought heart back into there play. There was no way the Glens were going to go down without a fight. The Glens started off the half well, and were unlucky to have a goal disallowed when the ball was played into the circle from a free, Paula Fitzpatrick getting a touch, but neither umpire witnessed the touch so it a long corner was awarded. The Glens were spurred on by this and upped their play. The defence worked well together, with Emma Healy playing a stormer denying Alex any chances. Some quick thinking from a free from the back, Ciara Nugent sending an aerial ball to player of the match Serena Rush, with some skilful play beat her player, playing the ball across the circle, Siobhan Bastable dummying and leaving the ball for Paula Fitzpatrick who slotted the ball camly into the goal. Glenanne kept the pace and it wasnt long until the Glens won a short corner, with a strike from Kate O’connor the ball was in the back of the goal. The glens held tough for the last couple of minutes with some more attacking play. With a new found confidence for Glenanne, Alex werent given any chances, the Glens closing them down until the final whistle. End score 2-1, three points in the bag, well done girls!!!!
