Ladies 2nds v Avoca Match Report 27/10/2011

Fresh from a double weekend the ladies had a mid week game against Avoca, after the first attempt to play this game had to be abandoned because of a water logged pitch and dangerous playing conditions. From the start of the game it was clear the Glens were up for the game, playing a short and fast game. Putting avoca under pressure from early on, with play that avoca found it hard to keep up with. A slow pitch and the Glens caught on the back foot nearly led to Avoca taking the lead, but goalie Emma Healy, putting in a super tackle in the circle to hold up play long enough for the defence to reorganise. The Glens were unlucky to concede a corner, which they defended well. The Glens pushed on but were just lacking in the circle. Avoca had another lucky break which resulted in a corner. Avoca switched right and had a powerful strike low and hard which found the backboard. The Glens upped their pace and pushed the play further up the field. The glens won a short corner, pushed out sightly to the left which meant Kate O’ Connor had to change the plan a slip to Maoliosa Nugent and with some skilful stick work, managed to reverse flick the ball into the goal. The Glens continued to apply pressure to Avoca, Maoliosa Nugent showed some more flare picking up the ball just outside the 25 yard line, beating two players and getting a shot off at the top of the circle which Marie Goulding was unlucky to get a touch to.

After half time, the Glens came out with the same passion they ended the first with. Avoca raising there game to meet the Glens. The second half was less eventful than the first, both sides giving away little. The Glens lacking the same confidence in the circle this half. On the left Marie Goulding and Siobhan Bastable worked tirelessly. The end score a goal a piece, the Glens disappointed to come out of the game with one point. The play shown from the Glenanne girls was very positive, the seconds now have a break until the weekend of November 13th, if they can use this time to up the fitness and confidence the game against Genisis will be very exciting. The seconds would like to thank Paul Kennedy for umpiring, and also thank everyone who came to support.
