Glenanne Ladies 2nds v Rathgar 1sts
Opening match of the season take two. With last weekends game against Avoca called off after twenty minutes due to torrential rain and a flooded pitch, the Glens were looking to this game to get the season off to a flying start. The ladies started off the game slowly, managing to maintain possession for long periods. After numerous circle entry’s but little won, young Sarah Daly stepped up to the plate with a powerful shot from the edge of the circle finding the back board, leading the glens into a 1-0 lead at half time.
Glenannes strong defence held well in the second half with some great tackles coming from Louise Kennedy and Kate O’ Connor. New comer and player of the match Chantelle Zietsman made her mark with some great runs from the defence pushing play upfield. With ten minutes to go Rathgar broke free against the play and secured the equaliser. In true Glenanne style the girls dug deep and fought to the end. Rathgars keeper was lucky to keep out a shot from Ciara Nugent which led to a short corner. Corners not going the ladies way and time running out, left the girls with a 1-1 draw.
Judging from this game, this season looks like it could shape up to be quite exciting for the ladies 2nds. If the ladies can iron out some issues and convert there chances, who knows where the ladies seconds could go this season.
