Match Report: vs Trinity (Ladies 1XI)
Having previously lost to this trinity team in the league and the indoor quarters, the glens had a point to prove. Previous match ups were a one sided affair and although the Glens clearly dominate this opposition, trinity have great dicipline at the back and give nothing away easily. The game started with Glens struggling for numbers with a few starting players missing in action. However with the talents of youthful players such as Serena Rush matched up with the experience and skill of Ali Geoffroy the Glens started to dominate from the whistle. The first half saw trojan work from everyone all over the pitch however Trinity got the better short corner count at 3-0 in the first half. One of Glenannes most consistantly strong attributes held fast and once again the defensive short corner team managed to keep the ball clear of our goals. The first half ended at 0-0 with the ladies having a good number of chances from open play, just to be denied by some solid trinity defending.
The second half demonstrated some gutts from the Glens playing in hot, dry conditions on a terribly dry pitch. Unfortunately not capitilising on our dominance again we could not find away into the trinity net. The glens defence having another tough but good day at the office, saw Louise Kennedy once again clearing the Glens line from a short corner attempt and Sue Byrne saving a penalty stroke, however even with everything being clearedup with relative ease,Trinity found away through via the backline to score an average goal, going otne ahead. The ladies threw everything they had into the dying moments of their season but ccould not find the equaliser they needed or indeed the second goal some may say they deserved. Another disappointing result to end a season that never reached its full potential for this talented side.
Man of the Match: Christine Barretto
