Men’s First Take 5th League Win
Match Report: vs Monkstown
The Mens Firsts secured the league title in Rathdown with a last minute 3-2 over Monkstown on Saturday.
On a beautiful day the game started at a quick pace with Glenanne on top and after two corners went unconverted Glenanne took a deserved lead, Shane O’Donoghue firing across goal for Jonathan Kane to deflect in on his reverse.
However Glenanne went into half time 2-1 down when Monkstown converted both their first half corners, Andy Ewington dragging home on both occasions.
The second half was an open flowing game with Glenanne controlling possession and Monkstown dangerous on the break. Glenanne drew level when O’Donoghue converted their 6th corner, dragging high past Davey Fitzgerald in the Monkstown goal.
Needing only a draw to take the title Glenanne could have sat back but they pushed on to win the game and were rewarded in the last minute, Gary Shaw collecting a Joe Brennan overhead and after rounding the keeper he calmly waited for Kane to arrive and rolled a pass into his path and Kane slapped home.
It is the Mens Firsts 5th Leinster Senior League title and their first since 2007.
