Match Report: vs Corrinthian
Glenanne 3-3 Corinthian
Glennane Mens Firsts failed to sow up the Leinster League last night when a Joe Brennan penalty stroke was denied at the death.
A lethargic start by Glenanne handed Corinthian the initiative, the host first to breaking balls and intercepting Glenanne passes at will. Two Corinthian corners were fired wide and Stephen Doran was the busier of the two keepers before they took the lead through a Lucas Piccioli deflection.
Glennane drew level straight after half time, Shane O’Donoghue dragging home after Eddie O’Malley had won the corner.
Corinthian took a 2-1 lead when Picciolo got his second, driving in from the left and firing into the bottom corner beyond Doran.
On 50 minutes it was 2-2, Stephen Brownlow bursting down the left hand side and sweeping across the circle for Jonathon Kane to apply the finish.
Corinthian went ahead for the third time when Neil Young found space in the circle and flicked over the advancing Doran.
A period of sustained Glennane pressure ensued and they got their deserved goal when O’Malley tapped home from 5 yards after a goal mouth scrabble.
O’Malley’s deflection from a short corner with two minutes remaining hit a foot on the line giving Joe Brennan a chance to secure the win but Murray guessed right and saved.
This leaves Glennane needing one point from their double weekend against Monkstown and Weston, both games away from home.
