Weekend Preview: Men’s 1st team on the brink

Men’s 1st team

Saturday 2nd April – YMCA (a):

The lads can wrap up a 5th Leinster league title in 12 years with a draw or better in Milltown (Old Alex) on Saturday. YMCA’s midweek draw with Monkstown made the equation slightly simpler for Glens but Graham Shaw’s side will be looking to repeat last Saturday’s performance against the same opposition (a 3-1 win) and finish the season unbeaten – the perfect preparation for the EHL at Easter. YM can still technically win the league but a more realistic target for them is to retain 2nd place in the league and thus entitle themselves to 3 home IHL games next season. (Tip off: 3pm)

Men’s 2nd team

Saturday 2nd April – YMCA (a)

Neither side is in contention to win the league but Glens still have work to do to finish top 5, a goal since a disastrous opening league sequence left them out of the running for top prize. Last week’s draw v Trinity was a setback but David O’Malley’s side will look to bounce back against a YM side they haven’t beaten in their last four attempts. (Tip off: 4.30pm)

Men’s 5th team

Sunday 3rd April – Rathgar Chiefs – St Columbus (Minor Cup final)

A second consecutive Minor Cup final for the Men’s 5th team, this time under the stewardship of John Keppel. The Chiefs are likely to represent a tough challenge (they won the league side between the two sides 5-1) but Glens have grown into the season and will hope to spring a surprise in Corinthians on Sunday. All support needed! (Tip off: 4.15pm)

Ladies 1st team

Saturday April 2 – Trinity (a)

Although it looks like a dead rubber for all intents and purposes, this game will mean a lot to both sides. A win for either team secures 7th position. A draw will see Glens take it anyway but Guy Garrett’s side will be looking to win, if even just to better their points total (15) of the last two season’s alone. A draw should be enough to keep Trinity in 8th. (Tip off: 11am)

Ladies 2nd team

Saturday 2nd April – Malahide Fingal (h)

Probably Saturday’s most important game from a club perspective, the seconds at least have their faith in their own hands and if they can replicate their performances of the last few weeks they should be alright. Last week’s 1-0 loss to Weston was disappointing but also heartening given the effort shown. These two sides met a few weeks ago and a 3-0 win for Glenanne was the outcome. The seconds are one point and three goals ahead of Botanic, who play third place Weston on Saturday. They have to stay ahead of them to remain in Division 4. Support welcome. (Tip off: 2.30pm)

Ladies 3rd team

Saturday 2nd April – Genesis (h)

The Ladies third team are the form side in the club over the last few weeks – winning their last 3 games and scoring 12 goals in the process – and they’ll look to finish off their season in style with a win over Genesis. Three points could get them a finishing position of 4th, while 5th is the worse possible outcome.
