Two Glens in contention for first caps
Glenanne have three players involved in Paul Revington’s extended squad for Ireland’s match against Canada on April 17th in Belfield.
The most interesting selections see Gary Shaw and Shane O’Donoghue in line to win their first Senior international caps should they stay in the South Africans plans for the match, as he will whittle his 22-man selection down to 16 closer to the encounter.
O’Donoghue has been in fine form this season, notching 34 goals in 27 games, and although the 18-year-old will sit his Leaving Cert this June, he could become a senior international in a few weeks time.
Shaw has been training with the panel for some time now – living by Revington’s mantra that player’s must truly earn their first cap. The 25-year-old striker has 15 goals this season and will follow in the footsteps of his cousin (and current coach) Graham should he play on April 17th.
Also involved is regular squad member Joe Brennan, who will earn his 48th cap should he play next month.
Ireland will also play against Canada in Belfast on April 19th and 20th but no Glenanne players will be involved on those two days due to their EHL commitments. Other possible new caps over the series are Kenny Carroll (Railway Union), Ronan Flannery (Pembroke Wanderers), Stephen West (Three Rock Rovers), Stephen Dowds (Banbridge) and Stuart Loughrey (Loughborough University).
