Match Report: vs Our Ladies (Ladies 3rd XI)

The weekend of the 19th February the ladies thirds played Trinity and although we played very well we lost 2-0 I could not bring myself to write a match report as I seemed to only be doing ones when we lost!!  However on Saturday we had the pleasure of playing Our Ladies for the third time this season, the last two times we have lost, they just always seem to get the better of us.  To be honest when I saw some of the heads on our little social butterflies I didn’t really hold much hope for us, and this was at 4pm……. Anyway away we went figuring we would just make sure we at least enjoyed ourselves out there even if they were probably going to beat us again. Little did I know how wrong I was, somehow in spite of it being a silent hockey match, with neither team talking at all ( very eerie) all you could hear was the sound of the ball being hit.  Obviously our team has been working on mind reading techniques as our passing was superb with Sinead and Niamh Mc making some lovely runs aided by Brid, Orlagh and Ashling in the midfield.  Our Ladies also made some good runs but they were always stopped by Katie who was clearing everything, and she was worried about playing sweeper, no need at all. It wasn’t long before we got our first short corner of the game, the girls had been practicing these at training so it was time to test them, pass out to Sinead who struck and then that sweet sound of the backboard being hit, 1-0 to Glens. Some excellent saves by Emma kept us at this score up to half time.

The second half saw things begin to get a little heated but somehow every one managed to keep their heads, the short corners came again but they were well defended against.  Our Ladies did a lot more attacking this half but the Glens defence hardly let them through making poor Emma a very cold goalie. They were getting more attacks in though so we knew we needed one more goal to ensure the win, well done to the forwards who managed to get another short corner.  But where was Sinead, having a little rest on the side line (which she thoroughly deserved). Quick decision had to be made and I caught Jane as she was making her way back to the defence, was she up for a strike, she certainly was – 2-0 to Glenanne with 5 minutes to go. Final whistle 2-0 to us whoop whoop.  A great team performance, even if we didn’t talk to each other, I don’t think anyone player stood out as being man of the match there were 15 of us and everyone was great, well done girlies a well deserved 3 points your captain is proud!
