Match Report: vs Old Alex (Ladies Div 1)
Ladies 1X11 VS Old Alex
Another disappointing result
The Ladies went into this tie feeling confident after a solid performance last weekend. Although having a shakey start the glens managed to curtail the nerves in under 5 minutes and competed well with the visitors. A subdued first half ending with no goals to seperate the teams. The ladies had a few changes to their starting line up with the tenacity of Mary Waldron, the toughness of Maolisa Nugent and the dilligence of Claire Shillington missing through other commitments and injuries. The depth of the Glenanne squad was demonstrated with a solid first half performance with a number of chances that went awry.
The second half saw tired legs from the Glens, unfortunately being caught on the counter attack a couple of times. Alex duly placed one such break away into the back of the glens net early on in the second half. Another such attempt superbly taken off the line by young Jennifer Rynne with Susan Byrne in the Glens goal being kept busy with some super saves. Glenanne dominated possession for most of the second half however when pushing forward trying to get an equaliser, with a few chances sent achingly wide, they were once again caught on the counter attack from a failed penalty corner, resulting in Alex being awarded a penalty corner at the other end of the pitch.
Unfortunately for the ladies Alex showed more accuracy with their lower short corner count and placed the ball firmly into the glens backboard. The Glens had some good attacking moves in the dying minutes of the game which saw some super work from the ever impressive Paula Fitzpatrick and Bex O`Rielly who shone with some hardwork upfront. Rachel Maunsel and Aiofe Dalton also getting involved in some last chances to bring the ladies back into this game however it was not to be the Glens day. The game ended at 2-0 which once again failed to reflect the games statistics. The ladies finish their league campaign with a very important game against Trinity next saturday.
Man of the match: Christine Barretto
