Match Report: vs North Kildare (Ladies 3rd XI)

The ladies thirds had two matches the weekend of the 5th and 6th and were on the hunt for some points to move them up the table.  Saturday it was North Kildare that we faced, an interesting game to say the least.  Not sure what I can say about this shortly into the first half Jane Salter put us 1-0 ahead but not long after North Kildare got one against us, the least said about this the better.  The second half we were all over them but nothing was going our way and some controversial decisions left me with a green card and a full time score of 1-1, all and all a very interesting match!!!

Sunny Sunday took us away to UCD the students hot off a draw against Trinity the day before but currently sitting at the bottom of the table so desperate for points. The game got off to a slow start with both teams even for the first ten minutes or so, but it didn’t take long for Niamh Mc and Sinead to work out a winning partnership up front which saw Sinead get her first goal of the match.  UCD didn’t have many chances in the first half but those they had were all stopped by Emma in the goals. The midfields lead by Niamh Aherne, Jane and Brid were doing great work giving the forwards some great passes which opened up another scoring opportunity for Sinead leaving the score 2-0 to the Glens at half time. UCD must have gotten a good talking to at half time as they came out of the blocks flying and not 5 minutes in but they had scored. Not to worry the Glens weren’t done yet and with Niamh Mc showing some class down the right side of the pitch it wasn’t long before Jane slammed one in the back of the net.  UCD had some good attacks down the right side of the pitch but Amy was there clearing everything up.  Another great run by Niamh Mc from inside her own half gave the Glens another chance with Sarah this time scoring.  Final result 4-1 to the Glens a well deserved win and although she didn’t score Man of the Match went to Niamh Mc who pretty much set up most of the goals. Well done girlies a well deserved 4 points from the weekend.
