Match Report: vs Bray (Ladies Div 1)
Ladies 1X11 VS Bray 1X11
Vital win for ladies
This tie was pivotal for both teams on securing their league position in the division one table. Having been evenly matched in the first outing this year it was going to prove a close encounter. The Glens got the better start headin into an early lead courtesy of a nicely worked team goal, finished off ably by Aiofe Dalton and the second a fine indiviual effort by Mary Waldron who worked herself into some space at the circles edge, finding a powerful shot to beat the keepers into the bottom corner. This saw the Glenanne ladies stutter for the first time in the game and lose their stronghold allowing the talented Linda O`Neil find her footing and earn a short corner late in the second half which was well taken by the australian newcomer, taking a slight deflection off a logging Sue Byrne to bring Bray right back into the game before half time.
The second half was an evenly matched affair, although Bray were subdued well by Louise Kennedy and Kate O`Connor in the centre of the Glens defence. The homesides short corner routine again failing to be as deadly as last season eventually led to a late second half goal. From an O`connor strike, taking a p spot deflection from Barretto to find Waldron in space to tap home her second goal of the match. The game ended with a healthy 3-1 scoreline although the Glens lacklustre performance failed to deserve this scoreline as it was a much tighter contest than the score showed. This win gives the glens a vital 3 points to secure their position in Division 1 for another season.
Man of the match: Aoife Dalton
