Men’s 2XI v UCD: Match report

The Men’s second team kicked on from their impressive dethroning of Monkstown in the Railway Cup as they beat a depleted UCD side 12-0 on Saturday.

They did not open the scoring until 12 minutes in when substitute Jonathan Kane rounded Ex-Glens goalkeeper Gareth Carragher before finishing on his reverse side.

The floodgates opened after that as Stephen Brownlow fired home a deflected dragflick, Cillian O’Neill finished a nice move involving the aforementioned and Kane, while Fred Van Der Weij tapped in a back post rebound soon after.

Alan Mcloughlin finished off the first half scoring with the goal of the game, a neat reverse stick deflection from a Paul Fitzpatrick crash-ball.

Carragher continued to keep the score as low as possible but needed more help from his defenders as Matt Lucas cleaned up a rebound to make it six.

Clive Kennedy then completed a quickfire hatrick – flicking home casually for his first, before a deflection and a routine finish completed his scoring.

There was still time for Van Der Weij and Lucas to double their tallies while John Stewart got his traditional goal against UCD with a short corner strike as the game finished.

The seconds, who have won 5 from 7 since the turn of the year, move onto a double league weekend against Three Rock Rovers and Railway, both away from home.
