Glenanne Hockey Club

Match Report: vs Railway Union (Ladies)

This tie is always a tough one for the Glenanne ladies team, away to regular table toppers Railway. The game started with a blistering pace and the Glens were immediately on the back foot, being fortunate to go into half time with only 2 goals falling to an international laden Railway team. Susan Byrne having a busy day at the office, pulled off some lovely saves in the first half to ensure the game was still within reach.

The second half seemed to be an uphill battle for the Glens, labouring not only under the awesome skills of some of the irish players on show but also under some tough umpiring decisions. However there really was little the Glens could do to keep the likes of Speers and O`Halloran under control, who were outstanding on the day. With more brilliant saves from Byrne and some gutsy defending from the back four, the ladies did well to quash the Railway teams goal tally to 6 by the final whistle. The Glens fought until the end and were very disappointed not to put on a better fight however after a tough midweek clash with another of the leagues top teams, it was just too much of an ask.
