Glenanne Hockey Club

Match Report – vs Annadale (Senior Cup)

Glennane relinquished their hold on the Irish Senior Cup when a golden goal sent Annadale through to the quarter finals.

Annadale scored within a minute, Andy Williamson tapping home after Peter Caruth had done all the hard work with a break from half way.

Glenanne were back on terms through a Joe Brennan drag but Annadale retook the lead from the tip off, Ian Hamilton sliding under the advancing Stephen Doran.

Hamilton made it 3-1 when his drag flick was deflected off Mick McGuinness’ stick into the far corner and he completed his hatrick just before half time when he capitalized on a defensive mistake to round Doran and reverse into the goal.

Glenanne came out firing after half time and Shane O’Donoghue reduced the deficit to 2 after just 30 seconds and Brennan made it 4-3 with 15 to go when he dragged home his second.

Jonathon Kane leveled things at 4-4 in the dying minutes, finished off a goal mouth scramble to send the game to extra time.

Few chances arose before Annadale won the only corner of extra time and after a miss trap and a blocked drag, Chris Campbell shot high over the diving Doran to send Annadale through to face Lisnagarvey in the quarter finals.

A big thank you from the Mens Firsts to everyone who helped organize refreshments for the teams afterwards.
