Glenanne Hockey Club

Bonus Point in Cork

The Mens Firsts got their IHL campaign back on track with a clinical victory against Cork Church of Ireland

The game was played in horrible conditions and the first quarter was a cagey affair with most of the action taking place in between the 25’s.

CI took the lead after 22 minutes, Clinton Sweetman finding a diving John Jermyn at the back post after a quick break down the left hand side.

4 Glennane corners went a begging in the 2nd quarter before Shane O’Donoghue finally tied things up, volleying home a rebound from his drag flick on the half time hooter.

In the 3rd quarter Glenanne went through the gears and came away with 4 goals, settling the contest.

O’Donoghue dragged home his second of the day after good work from Eddie O’Malley. And with John Jermyn now in the bin, Glenanne made their numerical advantage count, Filip Jaros tackling the ball over the line for the 3rd before O’Donoghue completed his hatrick and then added another, both from drag flicks.

In the final quarter CI pushed to get back into the game but a defense marshaled by Joe Brennan and Stephen Doran stood firm, stopping CI from winning a single short corner in the whole game. Philip Sweetman did break free and round Doran but Graham Shaw was there to take the ball off the line.

The win with the bonus point sees Glennane 1 point behind Lisnagarvey and Corinthian with 2 games to play.

Next up for Glennane is the National Indoor Finals this weekend.
