Ladies 1sts VS Pembroke 2nds, 16th Jan
Glenanne went into this tie as favourites however as this is a position they are not accustomed to, nerves were aplenty. The game started with a few changes to the starting line up.
A welcome return of the inspiring Niamh Ward gave the team a huge lift and the game started extremely well for the Glens. They dominated from the start and spent much of the first half camped in the oppositions half. As has been the case with many of the ladies preformances this year that dominance was not converted into goals. Only one short corner was achieved in the first half of this game and this did not go according to plan. Audrey McCormack and Mary Waldron totally dominated the first half in the midfield with some individual flare, however the half ended at 0-0.
Second half saw a rejuvenated Pembroke team who came out fighting and gave the Glens defence some work to do however the Glens were rewarded when 2 short corner routines broke down and allowed for Claire Shillington and Aiofe Dalton to score respectively from the goal mouth scramble. The Glens should have put more goals on the board but their final touches seem to let them down, and back post regular Paula Fitzpatrick was sorely missed as her rugby duties called. The Glens needed a win to boost their confidence coming into the next couple of games. Shillington scored her second goal of the weekend and had a standout weekend and therefore was deservedly awarded man of match on sunday.
