Glenanne Hockey Club

Indoor Tournament Sunday 30th Jan

VS Galway

Galway are arguably one of the best indoor teams in the ladies section so the Glens had their work cut out for them with their opening match. It didnt take the Glens long to find their stride opening the scoring with a nicely worked short corner routine which fell to Audrey McCormack at the top of the circle to place in the bottom corner of Galways net. Glenanne went in to the half time break with the one goal advantage. Paula Fitzpatrick adding to the tally from play shortly after the restart. Galway seemed to have a resurgence and scored from a short corner and open play respectively to bring the scores level. Galways experience at indoor saw them pull ahead with a lovely goal and for the first time in the game the Glens were behind. With the clock ticking down and Rebecca O`Reilly speeding up the court everyone was on the edge of their seats. Bex managed to put away a lovely goal just as the buzzer sounded and the Glens were rewarded with a draw at 3 goals apiece.

VS Three Rock

Glenanne having never played against three rock in indoor didnt know what to expect. The Glens also had to play straight after their first match which had been a close and fast game. The ladies came out firing on all cylinders and dominated from the start. Audrey McCormack finding her indoor legs and running rings around the opposition. The first short corner fell to Glenanne and was appropriately finished off by our very own Aoife Dalton getting a deflection on the back post. The first half ended at just 1-0. The second half saw the glens find their confidence putting away a slew of goals. Audrey McCormack getting 2, Kate O`Connor foraging forward to score a lovely goal from an impossibly tight angle, another score for Aoife Dalton and Rachel Maunsel getting one on the board with the goal of the day. A sensational lob over the keeper from the edge of the circle. Susan Byrne was an impentrable force in the Glenanne goals and had a super game, relishing the freedom that comes with indoor hockey. The game ended at 6-0 and the Glens move onto the next round having come 2nd in the group.
