Glenanne Ladies 3rds V Corinthians

Much more favourable weather conditions this week saw Glenanne step out against Corinthians for the first rematch of the league. After a 2-1 defeat last time out we were anxious to set the record straight. We came out fighting at the start of the match with a lot of good runs and possession. However, it didn’t last long and we found ourselves defending heavily and getting bogged down in our own half.

The opposition were rewarded after some fierce attacking with a series of short corners which were defended brilliantly by the backs. Much credit to keeping our clean sheet so far has to go to our goalie, Catherine for her outstanding play. A much needed injection of pace came in the form of Gemmas introduction to the pitch, which began to sway things more favourably towards us. Unfortunately, a sweetly hit short corner from Corinthians resulted in a goal just before half time along with a very black toe for Nuala Gillick.

After some strong words at half time we went out fighting again and created some good goal chances. We seemed to be more in control of our possession and after some good play Niamh Mc got the perfect touch outside the circle from a lovely pass delivered by Gemma to allow her to sail the ball past the opposition goalie. There were some great passages of play from the right hand side dream team of Niamh and Gemma and we were unlucky not convert any of these chances or any of our short corners and the match ended one goal a piece.

Man of the match went deservedly to Eimear Ahearn for her spectacular work rate at the centre of the pitch. A much improved second half got the thirds a well deserved 1 point to move them up the ever tight Division 10 table.
