Glenanne Ladies 1XI VS Corinthian 1XI
This was a vital tie for the ladies firsts against corinthian who lie bottom of the division 1 table. The game started very tentatively for the glens with nerves playing a very obvious role in the opening stages of this match. The nerves provided a very unimaginative 15 minutes seeing Glenanne try nothing outside of the ordinary however still managing to stifle anything Corinthian had to offer. The end of the 2nd half was when the ladies in green started to find their form with some solid play from young Nugent in midfield and solid defending and distribution from Louise Kennedy and Kate O`Connor. The first half ended with no goal seperating the teams.
The second half began with a worrying onslaught from Corinthian which was ably dealt with by Jennifer Rynne and Sue Byrne. This proved a flash in the pan as Glenanne rallied together and dominated the rest of the game. The deadlock was broken and Glens were rewarded for their patience with some quick thinking from centre back, Louise Kennedy, who took a quick free, sending a reverse pass to her left back, Christine Barretto, who gave a crisp wall pass up the pitch, which Aoife Dalton cleared the channel for Paula fitzpatrick to pick up the ball and send onto Dearbhla Kieran who finished off with a nice touch into goal. The second goal was not long to follow with a similar set up, another quick free taken from Christine Barretto sent up to Dearbhla Kieran, who had an inspiring game upfront continuing to play through the pain after she sustained a nasty injury to her finger, where after the initial shot was saved the ever eager Claire Shillington was onhand to finish off the goal mouth scramble that ensued. The game ended at 2-0 with Glenanne receiving not a single short corner the entire game, even so receiving the vital 3 points to move them up the table.
